Twiglet and the Surprise Gift

Little Brother and Twiglet are worried about Mummy. She wants to spend so much time on her own, and she is acting strangely. Fortunately, Mummy ealizes that she has to share her secret with them. But other odd events take place in Bessby that winter, too. On the hurch stairs Little Brother and Twiglet come across a hungry and cold child that won’t stop crying They call her the surprise gift, and she is allowed to stay with them. But what has happened to her mother?
